AD joins chorus against substation at Marfa

Alternattiva Demokratika
Alternattiva Demokratika has said that it strongly objects to the government decision through which Enemalta will be building an electricity substation in Marfa to supply people who are “abusively occupying public land” at Armier. The substation will cost €82,000.

Carmel Cacopardo, party spokesman on sustainable development, said it was unacceptable that people who took over public land were being rewarded in this way. This was incompatible with the rule of law in a democratic society and was akin to the law of the jungle.

Party leader Arnold Cassola said it was not ethical that just before the general election the leader of the Nationalist Party had a secret meeting with the association representing those who had abused.

Mr Cacopardo said the Armier coast should be taken back by the government in the interests of the people so that it could be enjoyed by everybody.
