In a press conference held on the 19th of January, Alternattiva Demokratika - The Green Party's Deputy Chairperson Mario Mallia introduced AD's new spokesperson on sustainable development Perit Carmel Cacopardo. Mario Mallia said that AD always emphasises 'quality of life' issues. 'Everything and everyone depends on each other; any policy in any area must be looked at and designed with the future in mind. For an country with limited resources it is imperative that we take a long-term view of development.
Carmel Cacopardo then explained the importance of placing the environment, the economy and social issues at the same level when decisions are taken. He said that it is time that the National Sustainability Strategy which was drawn up between 2002 and 2006 is put into practice.
Carmel Cacopardo said:"AD notes with satisfaction the recent publication of the second Corporate Social Responsibility Report by Band of Valletta. This non-financial reporting exercise should be emulated by the other banks in Malta as well as by public corporations such as Water Services Corporation and Enemalta Corporation."
Mario Mallia also announced that Simon Galea has been appointed spokesperson for Agriculture and Animal Welfare and that Ralph Cassar is now going to cover the areas of Energy, Innovation and Industry. Simon Galea has a keen interest in animal welfare and has experience in the agricultural field. He holds university diplomas in agriculture and environment studies. Ralph Cassar, a long time activist of the party, is an industrial chemist and works in the private industry. He holds degrees in chemistry and computer science and management.
