AD calls for an end to partisan politics in Sannat

AD GozoAlternattiva Demokratika has accused the Labour-led Sannat Local Council of partisan politics and of destroying any chance of creating a unified Local Council which works for the benefit of all Sannat residents. AD chairperson Dr Harry Vassallo reacted to the fact that after two resignations from the Labour representations in the Council, the Labour majority continue to exclude the AD and PN members from any roles or responsibilities. This is a similar situation to what is happening in the Nationalist-led council in Swieqi. "This senseless proposal is hugely disappointing and a betrayal of what local councils should really be about. These situations show that the two major parties have a lot to learn about what it means to work together for the benefit of the locality rather than in the interest of their respective political parties. Talent, capability, commitment and dedication should have no political colour and it is shameful that partisan politics wins over good sense in Sannat", Dr Vassallo said. Michael Briguglio, AD spokesperson for Local Councils, also called for the general secretary of the Labour Party to intervene in the situation, especially when everybody knows that the AD councillor in Sannat Mr. John M. Mizzi has been showing good will as from the first day of his appointment. AD is open to collaboration with councillors from different political backgrounds on issues where there is agreement. The collaboration between AD and MLP councillors in Sliema on the unsustainable development in Tigne' and Qui-si-sana is a case in point John M. Mizzi, AD councillor for Sannat said that AD will continue to highlight the needs of the residents irrespective of which political background they may belong to. "I will continue to show my strong and unwavering commitment to work hard in the interest of all Sannat residents, despite the negative, partisan attitude being shown by the Labour majority on the council".
