This evening Alternattiva Demokratika asked the law courts register to be opened after hours in order to present an application for the issue of a prohibitory injunction against the Broadcasting Authority.
Dr Harry Vassallo, who signed the application, said that the Broadcasting Authority intends to change the schedule of political broadcasts for the general election in a way that Alternattiva Demokratika would have no opportunity to voice its opinion in these broadcasts in the last week before election. In a specific manner, the Broadcasting Authority is removing the AD press conference from the last week of the electoral campaign which was scheduled for Tuesday the 4th of March.
Alternattiva Demokratika said it deplores these changes that occurred after the original schedule, planned through consultation with all parties, was already in operation. Dr Vassallo said that the Broadcasting Authority has the responsibility, according to the constitution, to ensure balance among all political parties and thus the changes proposed in the schedule is a clear and obvious manifestation of lack of duty towards the constitution.
Alternattiva Demokratika’s application was received by the judge on duty Dr Giannino Caruana Demajo that ordered the hearing of this case regarding an application for the issue of a prohibitory injunction for next Monday, the 25th of February, at 3.30pm.
