After Alternattiva Demokratika Zghazagh (ADZ) - The Green Youth presented their proposals for the AD general election manifesto, it was the AD Gozo Regional Committee’s turn to present its proposals for the Green Party’s Electoral Manifesto. During a press conference in AD’s office at Zebbug Gozo, the Green Party Leader together with the members of the AD Gozo Regional Committee presented this electoral manifesto specifically for the region-island of Gozo.
“Alternattiva Demokratika felt the need to create a specific electoral manifesto for Gozo due to the fact that this island remained a political ‘ball game’ between the two parties on the eve of every general election, with unsustainable promises which Gozitans are fed-up of hearing. We want to demonstrate that we do things differently. It is now the time for every registered voter in Gozo to have the choice to vote for the Green Party’s candidate if they want to see the best reform happening in Gozo” pronounced Dr. Vassallo.
Dr. Vassallo underlined that “Since our nation joined the European Union, Gozitans understand that if they want to see advances in Gozo they need a third voice, as opposed to the current two stagnated political parties financed by the speculators, with ineffective members of parliament who should be representing Gozo rather than the interests of their own political parties. Gozitans have already shown that there is a movement for change in Gozo when over 1,300 voted for the Green Party’s candidate during the MEPs elections, while around 12% of the voters in the local councils voted for Alternattiva Demokratika during the recent local council elections in Gozo. This political force of the AD Gozo regional Committee has forced the two parties to change their policies on Gozo, since they know that if they keep ignoring this electoral district, Gozitans are going to give a clear message in the next general election by voting Alternattiva Demokratika. The expectation of many that the electoral result of the Gozo district will bring forth surprises is justified.”
Dr. Harry Vassallo insisted that “The elected AD MP for Gozo will have to work hard to reform the administration of Gozo to become a transparent and a truly democratic one leading towards the extinction of nepotism and clientelism while creating a framework where all citizens are fully informed of their obligations and rights, without the need to slave themselves to any political alliance. Meritocracy will be something which will only be found in a dictionary and the Green MP will work towards the interest of Gozo and its future generations.”
The AD Gozo Regional Committee proposes opportunities in the IT industry, since such business is ideal for a small island like Gozo, such development does not incur further land speculation and it is in line with the Green Party’s proposal to turn Gozo into an ecological island. Dr. Vassallo proclaimed that “The Electoral Manifesto of Alternattiva Demokratika for Gozo includes a number of concrete and innovative proposals towards the creation of new, modern and sustainable jobs in Gozo. The manifesto also include proposals to turn the current controversies over Ta’ Cenc, Ramla and Hondoq into job opportunities without destroying the natural environment, our patrimony and the ecology.
The Manifesto includes proposals for a radical reform in public transport in Gozo which has been neglected for so many years, proposals for creating new, modern and sustainable jobs in Gozo, proposals for a reform in the Gozo Ministry, public administration and a fully democratic Gozo as well as proposals for a better quality education for all Gozitans to succeed. All these proposals are a guarantee that at the very moment that an AD candidate is elected; Gozo will truly be on the political agenda of the day. Gozo is ripe for a reform, which will propel it from an abandoned periphery of Malta to its most successful region. This could happen by means of electing an AD MP from a party characterised by relevance, prescience, expertise, and long term consistent commitment to the benefit of Gozo and the welfare of all Gozitans.
