BOV-NGO-Donations.jpgFour institutions, The Blind Foundation, the Muscular Dystrophy Group, the Special Olympics Malta and St. Joseph Home in Sta. Venera are this year’s beneficiaries of the funds collected through the BOV Employees Donation Scheme.

This initiative sees BOV employees setting aside an amount from their monthly salary with a view of helping others in need.

The Bank matches the amount collected by employees and makes an equivalent donation under the Social Pillar of its Community Programme. This year’s donations were presented to the beneficiaries during separate presentations.

The donation to the Malta Wireless and Talking Books for the Blind Foundation was presented by Julian Baldacchino, Manager BOV Preluna branch to Joseph Fenech-Conti, Chairman and founder of the foundation. Set up in 1965, this organisation aims to assist the blind and partially sighted by providing broadcasting and recording facilities for their education, information and entertainment.

Yvonne Vella received the donation on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Group from Ms Roseanne Petrococchino Manager of BOV’s Hamrun branch. This organisation provides a wide range of services and activities with a view to improving the physical, mental and social state of people suffering from Muscular Dystrophy whilst, at the same time, promoting research into the origin, prevention and cure of the condition.

The third organisation to benefit from the BOV Employees Donation Scheme was Special Olympics Malta. The funds were presented at BOV’s Mqabba branch, where the Manager, Joseph Caruana, welcomed coach Melanie Azzopardi who was accompanied by two of the participating athletes in the last edition of the Special Olympics. Besides seeking to improve physical fitness, Special Olympics Malta helps athletes gain greater self-confidence and a more positive self-image.

Herbert Catania, Manager of BOV’s Sta Venera visited St Joseph Home and presented the donation to Fr. Frank Cini. At St. Joseph Home provides a stable environment for its residents through a healthy, family-like atmosphere, characterised by care and acceptance.

The non-profit making organisations who have benefited from this year’s donations represent a cross-section of social causes where considerable time and effort is spent on helping those who are most in need.
