Three cars were damaged when a second-floor concrete balcony on Main Gate Street in Victoria collapsed and fell onto the street below this morning.
The entire second-floor balcony collapsed and fell, striking and demolishing part of the first-floor stone balcony below, before falling directly onto the pavement and street, with a large slab of concrete falling onto the roof of a parked car.
The parked car, a Toyota Auris, belonging to the owner of a nearby shop, Marcelle's Fashion Wear, took the full force of the falling balcony and was severely damaged.
Two other cars which were travelling along Main Gate Street, a Renault 19 and a Renault Scenic were also hit and damaged by falling stonework.
It was very fortunate that their were no pedestrians nearby at the time, or anyone sitting in the parked car, otherwise there could easily have been fatalities.
