The Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz has said that it is delighted to ring in the Advent season by hosting an extraordinary cultural event: on Sunday, the 7th of December 2008, at 7.30pm, world-renowned pianist Michelangelo Carbonara will fill the walls of the Kappella, the hotel's medieval style banqueting room, with the music of Chopin and Brahms as well as George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
Piano virtuoso Carbonara, hailed by the Culture Magazine of the London Sunday Times as "pianist extraordinaire, …he will become one of the greatest pianists ever," was born 29 years ago in Salerno, Italy. Beginning his musical studies at the age of five and writing his first compositions at six, Carbonara proceeded to become one of the biggest names internationally; about 70 concerts per year see him performing throughout Europe, America, Africa and Asia.
Last July his travels led him to Gozo on the occasion of the Victoria International Arts Festival, where Carbonara truly captivated his audience, who in turn rewarded him with a standing ovation.
Following Michelangelo Carbonara's concert, patrons may opt to let Chef Francesco Calore provide a perfect conclusion to this special musical evening, by treating them to the genuine cuisine of his home country at the Kempinski's restaurant.
The concert is being organised by Sonia Sinclair Stevenson, well-known for her indefatigable charity work in Gozo, both independently and through her work with Rotary Club Gozo. All proceeds from this concert go towards the funds of The Friends of the Sick and the Elderly in Gozo (FSEG), a voluntary organisation which does sterling work assisting the sick and the elderly in every way and helping improve hospital and home facilities available for the safety, welfare, comfort and convenience of the sick and the elderly in Gozo.
To further complement this unique event, the Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz is also offering special overnight packages to patrons, who would like to take advantage of the following day being a public holiday. Entrance fee to the concert is €20, while dinner is €30 per person.
For bookings of concert tickets, dinner and/or overnight stays at reduced rates, please contact Sonja Sinclair Stevenson on telephone 21562074, fax 21563396, or via email to info@tssgallery.com.
