Not Eco-Gozo - Dilapidated area of Ta’ Lambert

Illegal dumping at Ta' Lambert
Once again, Alternattiva Demokratika has said that they applaud the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage for not only suggesting to schedule the whole of Ta' Cenc area but also highlighting the fact that more archeological remains are yet to be discovered on other sites in the Mgarr ix-Xini area.

The Green Party general secretary and spokesperson for Gozo, Mr. Victor Galea said "We had been now insisting for the last three years that the dilapidated area of Ta' Lambert near the defunct heliport should stop being used as an illegal dumping site where irresponsible people are tipping their rubbish and construction waste in broad daylight. [See photo above]

"Nobody seems to be responsible for enforcing the law here and besides the Ministry for Gozo, we also appeal to the MLP-led Local the Council of Xewkija to be more pro-active in this regard." Mr Galea asked "Could this be an excuse to encourage further developments in the area of the unused heliport since someone would argue that the site is already in a dilapidated state?"

AD's Gozo spokesperson insisted that "A mistake should not be remedied by any further mistakes and the government should put the money where it is needed: a general clean-up of these yet undiscovered archeological sites and investing seriously in culture and heritage which gives the island of Gozo a particular identity as the island with most ancient landscapes of the Mediterranean. The government should learn that Gozo needs job creation also in the sector of culture and heritage."

The Green Party chairperson Prof. Arnold Cassola suggested that, "There has to be some form of system where responsibility is shared and certainly a campaign to educate people about having a sense of pride in their surroundings and the environment. Fieldtrips to these endangered places should be encouraged in order to sensitize students and help them understand that future generations will not be able to enjoy unless we care for it ourselves. A culture of collaborating together is much needed in our nation and partnership programmes between government entities, local councils, NGOs and other organizations should be encouraged," Arnold Cassola concluded.

My thoughts are what Gozo island, would be like if the Green Party or anyone else for the last 20 years said nothing about any MEPA decision? Take a little day dream and think about. I am sure the PM would be very proud, to see his SUSTAINABLE GROWTH promise being accomplished at the expence of Gozo’s natural enviroment.
