This is one of the programmes run by the International organisation The Foundation for Environmental Education - FEE. The Eco Schools programme was launched in Malta in 2002 by Nature Trust (Malta) as the Malta representative of FEE. The Ekoskola is about empowering students in the running of this programme thus ensuring that our Islands will have more responsible citizens in the future.

Mr Vincent Attard - NTM President and FEE Malta Coordinator said that Xaghra Primary has now joined other countries round the world and can proudly fly the prestigious Green Flag on their school as an international symbol that this school has reached the international level in environmental education criteria.

He said that NTM strongly believed in Environmental Education and allocates more then 30% of its annual budgets on Environmental education. He thanks all the supporters of this programme in the Maltese Islands - Ministry for Education, Ministry for Resources and Rural affairs, HSBC Bank Malta and Wasteserve.

Dr Paul Pace who is the National Ekoskola Coordinator for Malta mentioned how the programme developed and how this is today contributing to the most effective environmental educational programme in the Maltese islands

The Gozo College Principal - Chev. F Gatt congratulated Xaghra Primary on their achievement. He said this was a historic moment and a milestone both for the schools of Gozo and Xaghra primary for achieving such a prestigious award. He was proud to be attending this great occasion.
