The Victory Band of Xaghra will commemorate the 110th Anniversary of its foundation with a special ceremony this coming Sunday, the 31st of August. This event is in addition to the concert we reported last week.
At 9.30am on Sunday, the Victory Band will play band marches along Church Street, Victory Square, 8th September Avenue and Maria Bambina Street and ends in front of the Victory Band Club.
At 10.30am, a commemorative ceremony will take place. There will be readings about the foundation of the band in 1898, two speeches by distinguished members of the Band Committee and a blessing of two commemorative plaques; one showing the names of all the Presidents of this musical society and the other one showing the names of all the Musical Directors of the Victory Band.
The blessing will be carried out by Mgr. Carmelo Refalo, Xaghra Archpriest and Can. Julian Refalo Rapa, Spiritual Director of this musical entity.
The public in-general is invited to attend for this particular ceremony as part of the activities relating to the titular feast of Maria Bambina celebrated with great solemnity in Xaghra Parish.
The Victory Band of Xaghra was founded on 25th October, 1898 with the initiative of the Maltese Director Mro. Eduardo Farina and the Xaghra Archpriest at that time, Mgr Giuseppe Diacono. It was the first band to be founded in Gozitan villages after the Leone and La Stella bands respectively.
