2008 has been a notable year for the Gozo Critical Care Foundation (CCU Foundation). Ably led by their Chairman Mrs Carmen Bellamy, this small committee seems to have touched the "hearts" of benevolent Gozo, and even beyond. The aim of the Foundation is to improve facilities at the CCU in Gozo General Hospital. The provision of vital machinery in this unit receives no government funding but Gozitans and foreign residents in Gozo, are not deterred. This year the generous help of local people (and overseas well wishers) has meant that enough funds have been raised to complete this particular project.
On the 29th of November The CCU Foundation organised a Winter Interlude to raise funds for this very worthy cause. The Chairman, Mrs Carmen Bellamy, was delighted to announce that the last three Monitors and the Nurse's Central Station have now been ordered and were due to be installed in the next few weeks. Special thanks go to the Amadeus Chamber Choir and the Wallace Pipes and Drums who entertained the audience with their wonderful performance.
What a wonderful change for the Gozo CCU Ward. Once these last monitors are installed, there will be, for the first time ever, a monitor for each bed in the Ward, for the convenience of the patients and the Medical Staff. Some of these Monitors are portable and compatible with aircraft, just in case there is a need for a patient to be transported to Malta or indeed overseas.
Due to the installation of these Monitors, patients who would have normally been sent to Mater Dei, are now treated in Gozo and patients who were in Mater Dei have been sent back to Gozo for treatment. What a benefit to the patient and their family to be together at such an emotional and critical time.
The Foundation extend a large thank you to the people of Gozo for their support in the past and their continued support in the future. Heart problems can attack anyone at any age and we all have the right of access to good quality machinery to augment the already highly skilled and caring medical staff in the CCU at Gozo General Hospital.
The Gozo CCU Foundation will continue to purchase other needed equipment for this very special Ward.
Mrs Carmen Bellamy would also like to thank all the small businesses, benefactors and all who support the CCU Foundation in one way or another for their generosity.

"Have a Heart" and carry on supporting the Gozo CCU Foundation - for the sake of the entire Local Community and, maybe, YOURSELF!
