Nationalist Party President Victor Scerri resigns

Nationalist Party President, Victor Scerri, has announced his resignation, Dr Scerri stressed that he had made the decision of his own free will.
Dr Scerri said he had informed the Prime Minister, Dr Lawrence Gonzi and Party General Secretary, Paul Borg Olivier, that he was resigning with immediate effect today, outlining the reasons for his decision in a formal letter.
Dr Scerri thanked the Prime Minister and Dr Borg Olivier for their confidence in him and thanked party officials with whom he had worked for many years, particularly councillors who had once again elected him as president of the party’s general council.
Dr Scerri, who was recently granted a controversial permit for the reconstruction of a farmhouse on land he owned in Ba?rija, said he would now continue to fight his case as a private citizen.
