Glass Menagerie performance at Victoria Arts Festival

The renowned Tennessee Williams play The Glass Menagerie was recently performed at the Cittadella Centre by the Gozo Creative Theatre Club.
Invited by the Victoria Arts Festival organisers, George Mizzi’s able ensemble provided patrons with two hours of intense drama that turned the ancient space of the women’s prison into the crammed parlour of a St Louis apartment. Here, four people grapple with their own thwarted aspirations against the austere background of the Great Depression.
Played with feeling by Mariella Gannon (Amanda), Luke Azzopardi (Tom), Vanessa Attard (Laura) and Marc Schembri (Jim), the play represented an element of local talent that the Festival tries to promote, alongside other fare made up mostly of musicians of international repute.
Director George Mizzi plans further performances of the play in the autumn, when it is bound to attract students who are studying the play as part of their English Literature syllabus.
