Zebbug Local Council have announced that they are organising ‘Gheruqna’, a Maltese musical, which is to be held on Sunday, the 16th of August at Marsalforn.
This musical has been written by Can. Noel Saliba, the musical composition is by Mro Paul Abela and artistic direction by Mr. Ray Mangion. Georgina Abela and J Anvil will be taking the main lead parts.
The idea for the musical arose because the Pauline Year is being celebrated during 2009 and the production will show episodes from the life of St Mary, the patron saint of Zebbug, as well as the conversion and the shipwreck of St Paul, patron saint of Marsalforn, 1500 years after the occurrence.
Dr Chris Said, Parliamentary Secretary for Public Consultation and Information, praised the initiative of the Zebbug Local Council for the work they have done organising the musical event, and thanked the author, composer and artistic director who have been able to give local artists an oportunity to perform in the musical, he also thanked the large number of people that are devoting their time voluntarily for the preparation of the musical.
The musical will be performed against the natural background of Marsalforn bay and local boats will be used as part of the scenic backdrop.

Don’t know why Gozitan Local Councils like this one do not appreciate Gozitan talent and entrust Gozitan musicians, singers, theatre diectors who in the past have proved themselves capable of grand scale and very professional productions such as Gwanninu, Pawlu 2000, EROJ, Madre Teresa etc. It seems that they prefer to pay loads of money to Maltese rather than to the Gozitans.
Cheers!
