No more environmental destruction

Moviment GraffittiMoviment Graffitti is urging the Maltese and Gozitan people to voice themselves against all forms of unsustainable development by any legitimate means possible, including through the participation in public demonstrations organized by non govermental NGO’s.

Participation in the upcoming environmental demonstration will help to show one’s disapproval of present practices as well as urge the Maltese government to endorse sustainable measures through which Malta’s environment can be safeguarded.

Moviment Graffitti is strongly of the belief that; “Malta cannot afford to continue to lose more land for development and speculation purposes. In fact, MEPA’s ‘State of the Environment Report 2005′ declares that 23% of Malta’s land size is currently urbanized (in comparison with an EU average of 7-8%).

In view of the present state of affairs, as a result, it is utterly unsustainable and irrational to keep constructing and accepting proposals for development on land outside the development zone areas, such as with regards to the latest approval at Ramla l-Hamra and the proposed one at Hondoq ir-Rummien in Gozo.

As a result, Moviment Graffitti decrees that; “Malta requires a total moratorium on development outside the present development zone.” This is due the fact that; “the further extension to the development zone, places Malta at high risk of becoming more urbanised, resulting in further economic, social and psychological negative repercussions, particularly with regards to the environment, health and tourism.”

As it had done in several prior occasions, Moviment Graffitti will continue to voice itself against any form of environmental destruction and degradation by participating actively in the protest demonstration that is going to be held in Valletta, next Monday 25th June.
