The Nationalist Party has held on to its majority in Gharb, by garnering only five votes over AD candidate Victor Galea.
David Apap Agius was re-elected as mayor, with Raymond Cassar and Carmen Vella for the PN and Lisa Marie Brooke and Emanuel Muscat for PL elected as councillors.
Alternattiva Demokratika candidate Victor Galea, had been strongly supported by the residents of Gharb and narrowly missed being elected to the local council by just those 5 votes.
Had he won, Mr Galea would have been Gozo’s first AD councillor since John Mizzi from Sannat Local Council defected to the Labour Party.
Mr Galea would no doubt certainly have spiced up political life in Gozo, as he has already become a well known local figure through his constant battle with the authorities, particularly over environmental issues and the overdevelopment of Gozo.
