Breaking News (Update 2 – 3.00pm) – It has now been reported that the World Health Organisation has already sent out advance warning emails advising countries that a full-scale pandemic will be declared by 6.00pm CET this evening.
The WHO called an emergency meeting in Geneva at 11.00am this morning and was widely expected to declare the current swine flu outbreak as a full-scale pandemic.
The last pandemic occured 41years ago, a million people perished during the course of this previous pandemic.
In Australia alone the cases have quadrupled in the past week, bringing the number to over 1200, which has given grave cause for concern.
As of yesterday, Wednesday the 10th of June 2009, 74 countries had officially reported 27,737 cases of influenza A(H1N1) infection, including 141 deaths.
