The Board of the Malta Environment and Planning Authority today postponed by a week the decision on the application for a waste transfer station at Tal-Kus, Xewkija, Gozo.
This application had been scheduled for a decision in public today, Thursday, the 14th of May 2009.
Prior to the Board meeting, it was brought to the attention of the Chairman, Mr. Austin Walker, that the Development Planning Application Report, which is available to the public on the internet was missing some information. Following an internal investigation it was established that about 40 pages had been missing from the report in the section relating to the EIA. This had been caused by technical difficulties.
The Chairman brought the matter to the attention of the Board Members and of the public. Mr. Walker expressed his regret at the inconvenience to the applicant and to those present for the meeting. The publication of such information on the website is not a legal obligation, however, Mr. Walker said “In the interest of a well informed public, I would like to propose that the decision is postponed by a week to ensure that the full information is made available to the public.”
MEPA Board voted unanimously for the postponement of the decision to next week as this was deemed the best solution in the public interest.
