According to the official website of the New 7 Wonders, the Azure Window, which was nominated by the San Lawrenz Local Council as one of the “New 7 Wonders of Nature,” is now in 24th place, having risen from 27th place.
The San Lawrenz Local Council made use of various types of publicity, including the popular site Facebook. The Facebook group, which was founded under the name “Let us put the Azure Window one of the seven wonders of the world.” has managed to obtain about 4000 members.
The Mayor of San Lawrenz, Noel Formosa, said that he is very satisfied with the way the campaign is progressing, but he pointed out that it is very important that they continue with this momentum. “The road is long” the Mayor continued, “if we do our utmost we could achieve this aim.”
Mayor Formosa added that judging from the comments he gets through Facebook, it seems that this campaign is helping in marketing Malta and Gozo. “Reaching this aim or not, we have already seen benefits,” concluded the Mayor.

Hadn’t you better clean up the place? – it was disgusting this weekend with yellow liquid seeping out of both toilets (thank goodness that was all!) and the garbage blowing around made one really ashamed to be on this island. Of course the monster is still there and should be removed immediately! I sincerely hope that nobody from the 7 Wonders comes even near the real thing!
Shame on the council and whoever else is responsible!
I am really disgusted with your comment, i hope that this isn’t your reaction to everything bad that happens.
Well, about the yellow liquid coming out of the toilets, well,it’s actually the tourists fault, and even the garbage blowing around. You tourists have no respect, and so litter around and decrease the beauty. Also, it is all you tourists’ fault that this amazing attraction is being polluted.
Thanks for your time and i hope that you will feel the guilt as you read this comment.
I wrote this to show you that we actually do care, and by the way, i am just a local citizen, nothing more.
Max, 14 years.
I don’t want you to be angry, and I am actually hurt and shocked about your feelings towards this lovely island
Enjoy your stay in Gozo!
Max I think you have got the wrong end of the stick here. I have seen many letters from Mrs. Kreupl and know for a fact that she lives on the island of Gozo for most of the year. So I don’t think it’s fair to label her in the same way as a normal tourist. From what she has written in the past it is obvious that she cares deeply about the island.
As for the blame you are putting on tourists I think that is unfair also. I will admit that I myself have seen tourists dropping litter in the streets and at local beauty spots, but I have seen locals doing the same thing. If you go out for a walk in the countryside you will see many examples of dumped fridges, washing machines etc. Are you saying the tourists bring these items with them specifically to dump on Gozo?
The Azure Window and the inland sea are one of my favourite places to visit when I come to Gozo and I am really happy that this beautiful natural wonder has been chosen to run for a place in the New 7 Wonders competition. Just think what a boost it would be for Gozo tourism to have one of the new 7 wonders of the world. But as much as I love it I know in my heart this won’t happen until the authorities take the bull by the horns and fix the area up.
Tourists are not the only ones responsible for keeping Gozo tidy; everyone has to play their part. Tourists are not responsible for the rusted concrete eyesore at the top of the hill leading to the Inland Sea. Tourists are not responsible for the dangerous state that the quay at ?ondoq ir-Rummien has been left in. These matters are the responsibility of your local Government ministers and need to be addressed.
I can tell from your letter Max that you love your island home very much and I have to say I envy you. What you have to understand is that people like myself who come back to the island every year and people like Lesley Kreupl who live there most of the year love it just as much as you do. If we didn’t Max we wouldn’t keep coming back!
Max you certainly got it all wrong. Just see all these links from Gozo News and you will soon find out that you haven`t done your homework well mate.
Alex there is nothing more to add to what you have said.In other words YOU SAID IT ALL

THERE ARE MORE ON OTHER NEWSPAPERS ALSO
Dear Max,
I am delighted that you, as a young Gozitan, have chosen to reply to my comment. If you have taken time to read the other letters and comments I have written, you will see that I love this island very much. Tourists are only responsible for a tiny fraction of the mess lying around this island. Come and visit me one day in Gharb and, to steal the wonderful words from an old song written by Ralph McTell
Let me take you by the hand
And lead you through the streets of (London) Gozo
I will show you something to make you change your mind.
Thanks for your support Swimmer and Alex!
