An Audience with Peter, His Keys and His Friends at XewkijaThis evening – An Audience with Peter, His Keys and His Friends – is being held at St Johns Church, The Rotunda, Xewkija, starting at 7.30pm.

Peter Thomas, leader of the Gozo Community Choir will be presenting a collection of some of his favourite pieces on organ and voice from Bach to Mozart, from Simon & Garfunkel to his own compositions with musical theatre in between.

He remarked that the event is “as a huge thank you to Father Daniel, The Xewkija Parish and Noel Gallo, the creator of this organ masterpiece.”

He will also be performing his `Xewkija Toccata,’ written as a thank you to celebrate the beauty of the surroundings that he, his wife and the choir now so enjoy.

The approximate 90-minute programme for this evening, Tuesday, the 4th of June, will be introduced by Peter during the concert and includes two hymns needing full audience participation.

Everyone is invited to attend and join in this special event of song and fill the Rotunda with their music, one in Maltese, L’Art S-Sema Bla Waqfien (to a Vaughan Williams tune), and celebrating Peter’s Welsh roots, “Cwm Rhondda” – Guide me O Thou Great Redeemer.

A donation during the evening to support work of the Rotunda and Community and its wonderful organ will be much appreciated. Peter thanked everyone for their support.

Peter Thomas first came to Gozo with his wife Linda back in 2011 and was struck by it’s beauty, friendliness, music and performance culture. By 2012, they had bought a home in Munxar and in 2016 moved permanently into the community.

Peter and Linda have performance roots, he an amateur musician learning the piano since he was 2 (but now 70 and still practising), she a professional dance teacher and choreographer.

Peter said that he supports all genres of music but is most at home sharing his skills by leading his Gozo Community Choir here on the island in an attempt to give something back to the community that has accepted them so wonderfully.

He added that the choir welcomes anyone with a passion for taking part in song, whether they have never sung in a choir before to an established singer, from a non-reader of music to an expert – all are welcome (each Tuesday night 6.45pm St Francis Church Hall, Victoria).

Peter concluded by saying that he is also thankful to Fr Michael and the Munxar community for the use of Munxar Hall for his choir practices from time to time. “I have loved the opportunity of performing in Munxar Parish Church to the local community.”
