A tender has been published to rebuild two main roads in Gozo, namely Mgarr Road in Nadur and St. Anthony Street in Ghajnsielem, the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana announced today.
The Minister said that the Ministry for Gozo is fully committed to improve Gozo’s infrastructure and through Project Gozo the Ministry is making investment a precedent for improving roads and the level of quality of life in Gozo.
Dr Caruana said that a few weeks ago the experts appointed by the Ministry for Gozo gave a detailed explanation of the challenges associated with the work on Mgarr Road. Following the evaluation of studies, experts have now drawn up plans and designs so that this road is given the importance it deserves and to ensure that interventions are made and implemented to last.
“Through this project 1.6 kilometres of roads will be rebuilt as well as new services put in, meaning that in particular, for the residents of St. Anthony Street, this will eliminate the inconvenience linked to the drainage system which has persisted for decades,” said the Minister.
The Minister for Gozo concluded by saying that this project is being treated in a holistic manner and by working on these two major roads, along with Zewwieqa Street, for which a tender has already been issued, the whole area will have been addressed and therefore will eliminate the challenges and drawbacks that have been associated with these roads.
