146,841 outbound tourists in the first quarter – up by 6.6%

Data from the National Statistics Office today, show that there was an estimated 146,841 outbound tourists for the first quarter, this was an increase of 6.6% on last year.
Outbound tourists towards EU and non-EU countries increased by 4.5 and 25.0% respectively on 2018. The NSO noted that Italy and the UK remained the most popular destinations, with a joint share of 49.9% of total tourist trips.
Outbound tourists spent 831,885 nights in the first quarter, down by 0.6%. In absolute terms, the majority of guest nights (58.3%) were spent in rented accommodation establishments, the NSO said.
The NSO noted that the estimated outlay by outbound tourists during this period increased by 9.3% over the same quarter of 2018, and stood at €112.9 million, equivalent to an average €769 per trip.
