€600,000 project for sports facilities in open spaces of Gozo and Malta

A €600,000 project is to start in various localities around Gozo and Malta for sports facilities in open spaces.
Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Sport and Voluntary Organisations Clifton Grima announced the project, which will be spread over two years and so far the projects and locations identified are only in Malta, including a new outdoor gym and the renovation of a playing field and pitch.
Parliamentary Secretary Clifton Grima said that through this investment many families will have the opportunity to enjoy open spaces in their localities which will also include maintenance of pitches etc.
He thanked Sport Malta for its valuable contribution to the project, with work currently underway in the assessment of various sites around Gozo and Malta to be turned in to sports facilities that will serve as recreation areas for the whole family.
“These facilities will be rebuilt or renovated for their potential to connect communities together making more room for more social interaction,” added Clifton Grima.
The Chief Executive of Sport Malta Mark Cutajar, stressed the importance of sport and physical activity in order to live a healthy life.
“The renovation and creation of these external facilities ensure the protection of public spaces that are accessible to anyone who wants to take part in a sport or physical activity,” said Cutajar, “It is the intention of Sport Malta to invest in outdoor gyms, family parks, jogging tracks and walking trails, all completed through the use of environmentally friendly measures.”
