173,000 tourists arrived on the Maltese Island during March

During March, an estimated 172,971 inbound visitors arrived on the Maltese Islands, this was an increase of 3.5% on the same period last year, the National Statistics Office said today.
145,814 of these trips were carried out for holidays, while a further 16,748 were for business.
The NSO noted that visitors from Non-EU Member States went up by 21.4% to 27,742 when compared to 2018
Total nights spent surpassed 1.1 million nights, this was up by 2.2% on March last year. The data shows that the largest share of guest nights (61.5%) was spent in collective accommodation establishments.
Tourist expenditure in March was estimated at €116.5 million, the NSO said. This was an increase of 0.5% on last year.
In the first three months of this year, there were 425,892 inbound tourists, an increase of 2.8% on 2018. Total nights spent went up by 4.2% reaching nearly 2.8 million nights.
During this same period the total tourism expenditure was estimated at €272.4 million, 0.3% higher than 2018. Total expenditure per capita stood at €640, which was down by 2.3% on last year.
