Front Favur Il-Mina in a statement has said that it welcomes the motion by Transport Minister Ian Borg and Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana regarding the Malta-Gozo tunnel project.
The motion was presented earlier on today in parliament, and the NGO said that the motion recognised “the importance and intent to undertake, commission and publish all studies and impact assessments as part of the planning application exercise.”
The motion said that the project for a permanent connectivity between Malta and Gozo is part of the Government’s Election Manifesto, “and approved by the majority of the people.”
The Front said that it “firmly believes that the way forward is to implement this project in the national interest.”
It also welcomed that the motion had reiterated and confirmed the Government’s intention of providing free public transport through the tunnel whilst keeping its options open regarding the possibility of mass transport.
The Front appealed to all MPs “to support this motion unreservedly given that they all have a mandate to enact this very much needed project.”
It argued the fact that “this project was outlined and supported in all electoral manifestos by which the current MPs were elected.”
