Giovanni N. Zammit appointed as new President of Wirt Ghawdex

Wirt Ghawdex has a new President, with Giovanni N. Zammit appointed to the position during the organisation’s recent Annual General Meeting.
Giovanni N. Zammit joined Wirt Ghawdex in 2002 originally serving as Treasurer. He has been the society’s Executive Secretary for the last 15 years.
Giovanni has been involved in the voluntary sector for most of his adult life and is particularly passionate about safeguarding Gozo’s heritage.
He has represented Wirt Ghawdex on a variety of committees such as the Gozo Regional Committee, Committee of Guarantee, Kumitat Konsultattiv dwar l-Arti u l-Patrimonju Storiku u Kulturali, Kumitat tal-Immaniggjar tac-Cittadella, Gozo NGOs Association, and lately on the Dwejra Opportunity Fund Committee.
Giovanni, commenting on his new role, said, “the preservation and safeguarding of our heritage are currently being constantly challenged but I look forward to working with the elected council to ensure that the heritage and natural environment of Gozo and Comino will always remain a national priority.”
“I proudly take on this new assignment and will work with renewed energy to promote the society’s mission ‘Safeguarding our Heritage for Future Generations,” he added.
During the AGM members also elected the new Council and the officials who will lead the voluntary heritage and environment NGO for the next 3 years.
Nicoline Sagona has been appointed Vice President, with Charles Cassar as the Society Secretary. Steven Andrews and Betty Zammit have been reconfirmed as the Treasurer and the committee/membership Secretary respectively.
The Public Relations/Media Officer position has been given to Daniel Cilia, while Ryan Bajada will be the society Project Manager and also the youth’s section representative. John Cremona will be the Events Coordinator while a new member to the council, Dr Frank-Luke Matthew Attard Camilleri, will be the council’s Legal Adviser.
