MEP Roberta Metsola, speaking at a PN activity in Nadur this morning said that, “Gozo has all the potential to become the digital destination of the future.”
Thanking Gozitans for their constant support over the last year, MEP Metsola called for massive public investment in traditional and digital infrastructure in order to make Gozo the destination of choice for foreign direct investment and to keep attracting mobile workers to the island.
Dr Metsola went on to say that, “we have the private enthusiasm but we need this to be matched by public decisions. Do not leave Gozo behind.”
“It is time for a fourth and fifth ferry, and the fast ferry service has taken too long. People are tired of empty promises, it is time for action,” stated the MEP. She added that she was working to support EU funding for a more modern Gozo Channel fleet.
“Gozo’s particular characteristics mean that tailored solutions are needed to ensure that those people who want to stay in Gozo have all the opportunities they need here,” said Dr Metsola.
MEP Metsola concluded by saying, “the future is digital and Gozo provides the a perfect environment to embrace all the opportunities the global tech revolution can provide. Government must stop sitting on its hands and grab it before it disappears.”
Roberta Metsola opened a constituency office in Gharb, Gozo in November last year to enable her to meet constituents regularly on the island.
