Gozo Half Marathon official launch – 2,000 athletes due to take part

Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana has launched the 44th edition of the Teamsport Gozo Half Marathon, which is taking place on Sunday, the 28th of April.
Dr Caruana said that each year the number of participants increase, confirming that th is annual Gozo marathon is a success story.
This year around 2,000 athletes are taking part, many of them foreign. The Minister remarked that even through the field of sports, Gozo’s name continues to spread worldwide.
Minister Caruana stressed that sport will be given the importance it deserves by the Ministry for Gozo including the promotion of physical activity.
She also gave details of the initiatives carried out so far on sporting facilities in Gozo, as well as those for the future, such as the work underway on the Gozo Aquatic Centre, which will include the swimming pool among other things.
The Minister Caruana praised the commitment of the voluntary organisers of this marathon, showing commitment and professionalism in organising the oldest marathon in Malta.
The President of the Gozo Half Marathon Mark Bonnici explained the various changes and innovations which will be introduced this year to continue to raise the level of this marathon.
He thanked the Ministry for Gozo for the continued support for the event so that it continues to strengthen. It also benefited through the the Non-Governmental Organisations Scheme and the Promotion of Sports Initiatives and Facilities Scheme.
Also present for the launch were Jonathan Darmanin, the Teamsport Company Director, as well Nicolene Sagona of Heritage Malta.
