Saturday evening’s Lejl Imkebbes (Mediterranean Diwali) at Citadel was a huge success, with thousands of people enjoying over 30,000 beautiful candles illuminating the narrow streets of the old city, some forming different shapes, the largest one being 15m x 9m.
Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana attended the event with her family, saying that this “splendid event was organised by the Ministry for Gozo for the first time.”
“A big thank you to all our collaborators especially NRGY Events and my team at the Ministry for Gozo,” said Dr Caruana.Visitors listened to entertainment provided by Michela Pace, the French artists Cherif Mbaw, Klinsmann Coleiro, The Busker and the popular Gozitan DCapitals Band, as well as jazz music by Jasmine and the Hot Club of Valletta.
Heritage Malta opened its museums and visitor centre for free. Other free Citadel sites open on the evening included the gunpowder magazine, silos and newly restored WWII Shelters.
Different specialities were available, with food stalls offering both Maltese and international cuisine, with the emphasis on Indian.
