Members of the Civil Protection Department have answered more than 300 calls for help across Gozo and Malta, due to the storm that hit the Maltese islands this weekend.
The operations included cutting trees, removing panels, roofs, and walls brought down by the wind, as well as floods, among others.
Workers of the CPD, together with the Police Force, NGOs, and volunteers of the Civil Protection Department assisted in these operations, the Government said.
Evacuations were also made from residential blocks in Sliema and Vittoriosa, after the buildings suffered severe water damage. The Government said that the people affected were offered alternative accommodation until their private homes are habitable again.
The Ministry for Home Affairs and National Security thanked the Civil Protection Department, the Police Force, the Armed Forces of Malta, Enemalta employees and workers of the Environmental Landscapes Consortium (ELC), NGOs and volunteers, “who are all working non-stop for the safety of the residents of Gozo and Malta.”
