Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana has launched the Astra Theatre’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
The musical, penned by Tim Rice with music composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, retells the Biblical story of Joseph and the coat of many colours and should certainly not need any introduction, said the Minister.
London trained performer Thomas Camilleri will play the main role of Joseph, Chantelle Micallef Grimaud is the Narrator while Chris Dingli will be returning to Teatru Astra following last year’s success, in the role of Pharaoh. Conductor for the musical is Mro Sigmund Mifsud.
“Activities of this dimension form an integral part of the strategy adopted by the Gozo Ministry, which means that Gozo has been transformed into a distinct destination throughout the year, offering something for everyone’s tastes,” remarked the Minister for Gozo.
She pointed out that the events organised and coordinated by the Ministry for Gozo are meeting their objectives for a strong influx of Maltese and visitors to the island each weekend.
“This increase in tourism is having a very positive impact on the economy, with Gozo becoming an economic engine, thereby leading to a growth which is enjoyed by everyone,” said Dr Caruana.
The Minister for Gozo said that this musical will also benefit from the scheme – Reaching the Stars – aimed at providing an opportunity to more young Gozitans to attend cultural activities and performances.
Performances for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat performances are Friday, the 29th (extra show) Saturday, the 30th of March, starting at 8pm, followed by a matinee performance on Sunday, the 31st of March at 4pm.
