Gozo Regional Carnival opens next Friday in the heart of VictoriaGozo is gearing up for Carnival fever, with final preparations underway so that the island is ready to welcome the thousands of visitors, both local and tourists, who visit for this very popular weekend.

This year’s programme for the Gozo Regional Carnival has been launched by the Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana. The Carnival celebrations will be held between Friday, the 1st and Tuesday, the 5th of March, in the heart of Victoria, with plenty of fun and laughter for all ages.

Dr Caruana said that the Ministry for Gozo is working tirelessly to strengthen the Gozo Carnival so that it attracts more participants and organisations.

Discussions are being held with the Gozo Carnival organisations with the aim of fulfilling their dream of having a permanent location from which to operate and build their floats and grotesque masks, the Minister said.

Minister Caruana and augured well for this year’s Carnival and encouraged everyone to visit the festivities.

The programme is as follows:

Friday 1st March 7.00pm: Official opening Grand Defile’ along Republic Street to Independence Square.

Followed by a spectacle of dance companies, grotesque masks and the traditional Komittiva in Independence Square.)

Saturday 2nd March 9.30am:: Children’s Carnival

Defile’ with all participants of the Gozo Regional Carnival along Republic Street to Independence Square.

There will be a dance spectacle with the participation of dance companies and school groups. It will include humorous sketches, the traditional Komittiva, triumphal floats, Maltese carnival groups and grotesque masks among the many participants.

Saturday 2nd March 6.00pm: Defile’ along Republic Street to Independence Square.

Dance spectacle with the participation of dance companies, together with triumphal floats, grotesque masks, “Il-Komittiva” and special guests of Maltese dance companies, Big Friends Guggen Musik Malta, Mellieha’s La Vittoria band and Sambrazilian – a Maltese/Brazilian band.

Sunday 3rd March 2.30pm: Defile’ along Republic Street to Independence Square..

Dance spectacle with the participation of dance companies together with triumphal floats, grotesque masks, bands, “Il-Komittiva” humorous sketches, Big Friends Guggen Musik Malta and La Vittoria band and Sambrazilian – a Maltese/Brazilian band.

Monday 4th March 6.00pm: Defile’ along Republic Street to Independence Square.

Dance spectacle with the participation of dance companies together with triumphal floats, grotesque masks, “Il-Komittiva” ,bands and humorous sketches.

Tuesday 5th March 6.00pm: Grand Finale along Republic Street to Independence Square..

Dance spectacle with the participation of dance companies together with triumphal floats, grotesque masks, humorous sketches and local bands.
