“The PN promises to give Gozo the status of a region, enabling its people to decide and not be ignored.” So said the Leader of the Nationalist Party Adrian Delia when he addressed a special session in Gozo launched by the PN General Council.
Dr. Delia said that the Nationalist Party must give Gozo the status of an island region in the Constitution of Malta, giving it executive powers to decide. He said that the Labour government promised many things to Gozitans and has so far not completed any of them.
Delia stated that the Labour Government had “promised projects like a cruise liner terminal, the new yacht marina, a new Court building and a new primary school in Victoria, which supposedly should have been ready by 2015.”
Adrian Delia said that Gozo is in need of serious investment for connectivity, so as not to be cut off from the rest of Malta. “The Labour Government has done nothing to alleviate the double insularity of Gozo and has instead halted the ferry service for cargo from Sa Maison, there is no fourth ferry, and no fast ferry service.”
He said the Government now promises a tunnel between Malta and Gozo, which will take at least another eight years to build.
The Head of the Nationalist Party also spoke about the health service on Gozo, saying that the Government sold the only hospital in Gozo without taking into account the needs of Gozitans..
Adrian Delia stressed the island’s unique needs which require a holistic vision for Gozo and a plan of socio-economic measures for the short, medium and long-term.
