Animal waste clogs Gozo sewage plant forcing it to shut – WSC

Operations at the Gozo sewage plant have had to shut down due to an illegal discharge of animal waste, the Water Services Corporation said on Thursday.
The Corporation said in a statement that the animal waste had “clogged the plant and caused severe damage in the expensive equipment which is used to produce new water that is distributed to farmers.”
It added that the situation within the plant is expected to stabilise early tomorrow morning, and it is “gathering all information which will be passed on to the police.”
“Sewage infrastructure is very complex and delicate and it is damaged through the improper use of the urban sewer system,” the Corporation said.
“It is therefore very important that only human toilet waste and degradable toilet paper are discharged in the system,” explained the WSC.
Any suspected foul play or problems with the sewer can be reported to the Corporation on Freephone: 8007 6400; Email: firstname.lastname@example.org or on Website live chat: www.wsc.com.mt or through their social media.
