Registrations for participation in the 44th edition of the Teamsport Gozo Half Marathon are now open.
The Gozo Half Marathon Organising Committee has said in a statement that this event is by far the “largest and longest-standing athletic event in Gozo attracting hundreds of local and foreign athletes.”
This year’s edition marks a very special edition for one of Malta’s most anticipated racing events with several changes to the event format which will make it a truly unique running experience, the organising committee said.
The event will be spread over two days – 27th and 28th of April – The committee said that this will provide “a perfect opportunity for friends and families alike to spend a weekend in Gozo, enjoying the untouched beauty of Malta’s sister island and experiencing this revolutionary format of the event, which is the first of its kind in the Maltese Islands.”
Competitive races for children (Kids 2km and Kids 4km) will take place for the first time ever.
These will be held on Saturday, the 27th, making it possible for athletic parents/relatives to watch their little ones run. On Sunday the 28th apart from the half marathon, the organisers have also introduced a new 10km route which will replace the previous 8-mile race.
The organises said that the Sunday event will feature a number of non-competitive runs/walks, namely 10km walk, 5km walk, family 5km run, and family 2km run.
“We aim to improve the quality of the event year in year out,” noted Mark Bonnici, President of the organising committee. “The Gozo Tourism Association has recognised the efforts of the Gozo Half Marathon organisers, by being awarded with the ‘Gozo Cultural/Social Tourism Achievement Award 2018.”
