177,000 inbound tourists recorded in November, up 5.9% on 2017

According to data from the National Statistics Office today, total inbound visitors for November were estimated at 177,000. This was an increase of 5.9% when compared to 2017.
145,630 of these inbound tourist trips were carried out for holiday purposes, while a further 20,258 were undertaken for business purposes.
Inbound tourists travelling from EU Member States rose by 6.2% to 149,537 when compared to the same month in 2017.
Total nights spent surpassed 1.1 million nights, the NSO said, this was up by 8.0% when compared to November 2017
The largest share of guest nights – 59.5 per cent – was spent in collective accommodation establishments.
Total tourist expenditure increased by 2.6% on last year, and was estimated at €123.5 million.
In the first eleven months of 2018, inbound tourist trips reached nearly 2.5 million, the NSO said that this was an increase of 14.5% over the same period in 2017.
Total nights spent by inbound tourists went up by 12.6%, reaching nearly 17.7 million nights.
Total tourism expenditure was 8.2% higher than 2017, and was estimated at €2.0 billion. While total expenditure per capita stood at €817, this was a decrease of 5.4% when compared to 2017, the NSO said.
