The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana said that as announced in the last budget, the Gozo Employment Refund Scheme is being extended for a second year.
During a visit to RA & Sons Ltd. of Xewkija, Dr Caruana said that the scheme is aimed at private companies in Gozo, who will benefit from a refund of 30% of the employees salary, up to a maximum of €6,000, to employers offering new workers a 3-year contract.
She stated that the scheme had been well received since it was first introduced and for this reason the government had decided to extend it.
Dr Caruana explained that through this scheme, the government wants to help and to incentivize the private sector, which will also allow workers to have better working conditions and training opportunities.
She added that this investment in `people’s skills’ is required in order to meet the challenges related to `human capital’ in Gozo.
“The Ministry has already, in these first few days of the year, started implementing the measures announced in the budget,” Dr Caruana said, “and this year the Ministry for Gozo will see an increase of 30% in funds allocated to it from the budget.”
