The village of Xaghra will be marking the Feast of the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord next Sunday, the 6th of January, with the triumphal entry of the Magi – La Cavalcata Dei Re Magi.
Organised by the Ghaqda Il-Milied fix-Xaghra and the Xaghra Historical Reenactment Organisation – La Cavalcata Dei Re Magi – is held with the full collaboration of the Xaghra Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo.
Held for the first time on the island in 2010, this very special event always attracts large crowds of both locals and tourists to the village centre to witness this spectacular scene which takes place in the village square.
Mary and Joseph carrying the Baby Jesus will make their way through Victory Square at around 10.15am, to their place in front of the Basilica, they are followed by a shepherd and a lamb. The shepherd will pay homage to the Baby Jesus and then take his place next to them on the Parvis. Arriving from three different streets, 8th September Avenue, Triq 28 t’April 1688 and Triq il-Knisja, the three Wise Men on horseback (the Magi) will converge on Victory Square.
The Magi, dressed in their rich attire, are accompanied by their pages carrying the three biblical presents, gold, incense and myrrh and one by one, they will present their gifts and pay homage to the Baby Jesus.
The Three Wise Men will then enter the Xaghra Basilica to attend the Celebration of the Eucharist, where they will make the offerings at Mass, which will be heard at around 11.00am.
