Professor Maurice Cauchi’s editorial in the new issue of Gozo Observer, looks at the issue of ‘Educating Adults.’
Another two articles in this 38th edition of the publication relates to the educational sector, and include that written by Charles Daniel Saliba on ‘The Teaching of Maltese as a Foreign Language’ and another by Joanne Sultana on ‘Dealing with Autism in Gozo.’
In his article ‘A Protest Letter from Gozo during the Birth of Press Freedom in Malta,’ Professor Joseph Galea explains the contents of a letter which was published in ‘The Harlequin’ in December 1838 and whose author hailed from Gharb.
The village of Gharb also features in an article by Toni Calleja about the genealogical history of Karmni Grima’s family name.
‘The Origins of the Scout Movement in Gozo,’ are traced by Anita Muscat, they are inspired by the maxim `Scouting is an adventure that will prepare its members for life.’
The Victoria Scout Group recently suffered the loss of its founder and first Group Scout Leader, Mr Joseph Grech, who also served as President of the Gozo Business Chamber. This issue includes an appreciation about him written by Joe Muscat.
Anton Tabone (ex-Minister for Gozo and ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives) describes the life and achievements of his uncle Censu Tabone, leading politician and ex-President of Malta.
Another two appreciations appearing in this issue relate with two regular contributors of ‘The Gozo Observer.’ Dr Joseph Bezzina delivers a detailed description of the life and works of Anton F. Attard whom he describes as ‘an expert in the Folklore and History of Gozo.’
Edwin Lanfranco remembers Joe Sultana, renowned Gozitan ornithologist and author on the subject.
Book reviews include that by Prof. Lino Briguglio about ‘Health and Society’ authored by Prof. Maurice N. Cauchi. Then Geoffrey G. Attard reviews three publications, namely: ‘Ir-Refugjati Maltin f’Ghawdex fi zmien il-Gwerra’ written by Frank and Charles Bezzina, ‘Il-Bolla tal-Kolleggjata tal-Gharb’ by Horatio Caesar Roger Vella and Aaron Attard-Hili’s ‘Bozzetti. The Gozo Campus Administrator Joseph Calleja, gives an account of courses, events and other activities held at the Gozo Campus since the previous issue.
