Nadur signs its third twinning, this time with Zafferana Etnea

On Saturday, the official twinning ceremony took place between Nadur and Zafferana Etnea, which is located in the Province of Catania, Sicily. This is the third such arrangement for Nadur.
The Nadur Local Council, in a statement said that their relationship had grown over the past three years, with a number of cultural and sports exchanges taking place, when delegations from both locations worked together carrying out various activities.
During the first week of November, a delegation from Nadur visited Zafferana Etnea for the official signing of a twinning agreement. The return visit to Nadur took place on Saturday with a delegation from Zafferana Etnea led by Mayor Alfio Russio.
The ceremony was held at the premises of the Mnarja Philharmonic Society in the presence of the Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana.
Nadur Mayor Edward Said and Mayor Alfio Russo, signed the twinning documents and exchanged flags and mementos to mark the occasion.
The delegation from Sicily have been in the locality for five days, staying with some of the residents of Nadur. They had the opportunity to visit the area around Nadur, as well as the rest of the island of Gozo. The visit ended with a trip to Valletta.
The Council said that the locality is looking forward with optimism to this new twinning and will build on the experiences made with other towns over the last twenty years.
It added that Nadur was the first locality in Gozo to make twinning arrangements with other foreign locations.
In 2000 it signed a friendship and cooperation twinning with the town of Cicciano in the province of Naples. Later in 2004 it signed with a second town – Baveno in the province Verbania.
The Council concluded by saying that throughout the years the town has kept alive the twinning agreements, with several exchanges and related activities held jointly each year.
