Feast of St Lucy celebrations with Festival of Light at Santa Lucija

Santa Lucija in Gozo is celebrating its Festa between the 3rd and 16th of December, and celebrations are taking place inside the beautiful little Church, as well as around the main streets.
The Ta’ Klula Cultural Group is organising the annual Festival of Light, as part of the religious festivities held in honour of the village Patron Saint – Saint Lucy. This will be on the eve of the feast on Saturday, the 15th of December, from 6.30pm onwards.
There will be a procession of young girls, dressed in long white gowns and a red sash, accompanied by an elder girl with a wreath of lit candles on her head. They will leave from the village church to the square where a large bonfire is also lit.
Santa Lucija buns are distributed to all those present and the Atonal Brass and Woodwind Band with Director Antoine Mercieca, will participate in the celebrations. This traditional event forms part of the programme for Christmas in Gozo.
Saint Lucy, is associated with lengthening days and more sunlight, the protector of light.
The hamlet feast on Sunday the 16th of December, will feature band marches, and religious celebrations, which will include a procession with the Titular statue from the Church Square through the streets of the village at 5.30pm in the evening.
For those who wish to visit the village on Saturday evening using public transport, bus number 313 goes to the village from the Victoria bus terminus.
