This Saturday will see the official opening of the Christmas celebrations in Gozo – a truly magical place to spend any time during the festive period.
The programme of Christmas events involves every village on the island, with something for all ages to enjoy, including concerts, living and static cribs, exhibitions, Christmas Fairs, pageants and much more.
For those who enjoy strolling around the old streets of Victoria, or indeed any of the villages on the island, you will find that many of the residents proudly open their doors and shutters for passers-by to enjoy their beautiful Christmas decorations and cribs.
To get the festive spirit off to a great start on Saturday an all-child choir of children from various schools and choirs will perform in Republic Street, they will be accompanied by the Junior Folk Band. From there they will parade to Independence Square for the opening ceremony.
The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana will then open the Christmas festivities by performing the the traditional `Mixeghla tad-dawl’ – switching on the Christmas Tree in Independence Square, and the lighting in Republic Street Victoria.
There will also be a 3D mapping light show on the Banca Giuratale facade, for the opening of Christmas in Gozo. The evening gets underway at 7.30pm.
The Christmas programme of events in Gozo will continue until Sunday, the 6th of January and details can be found on the official Christmas in Gozo facebook page.
Everyone is invited to go along and help get the Christmas in Gozo festivities off to a great start and partake of free mulled wine or hot chocolate, accompanied with entertainment by `Mae Band.’
