Restoration work has started on the niche of the Annunciation of Our Lady, in Gambin Street, Ghasri, Gozo.
The Ghasri Local Council was awarded funds to complete the work through a special scheme launched for local councils by the Ministry for Gozo, which was announced in June. It was one of six historic sites, selected from 13 submissions.
Dating back to the year 1773, the niche is located in the heart of this picturesque village. It is a very particular niche in its style since it is located on a gallery and relies on three columns, it represents the Angel Gabriel announcing to Mary that she would become the Mother of God.
The niche is located at the junction of four roads – Triq Il-Knisja, Triq Iz-Zebbug, Triq Salvu Gambin and Triq Il-Wilga.
