Premju Gieh l-Artigjanat Malti 2018 awarded to Ghajnsielem Council

The Ghajnsielem Local Council has been awarded Premju Gieh l-Artigjanat Malti 2018, in the category: Encouraging the Teaching of Crafts by Local Councils – for its work with residents on Mosaic, Patchwork and Ganutell.
The Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business Chris Cardona, presented the award was presented to the Ghajnsielem Mayor Franco Ciangura.
Including Ghajnsielem, there were six councils in total which competed in this category, five from Malta, Nadur was the other from Gozo with – Wirja Agrarja u tal-Artigjanat.
The Local Council said that this award is the fruit of the initiative of the Council to promote the art of mosaic art among the residents, by collectively undertaking to embellish projects within their own locality.
The Council said that following a series of workshops covering all aspects of this art, there are currently five mosaic projects underway.
The Mayor concluded that this award will further encourage the Council to continue to promote our traditional crafts. He congratulated everyone who contributed towards this honour especially the Ghajnsielem Mosaic Team under the direction of Mary Portelli.
Malta Crafts who bestow these awards is part of the Commerce Department within the Ministry for the Economy, Investment and Small Businesses, which consists of the Trade Services Directorate and the Intellectual Property Registrations Directorate (which includes the Small Businesses and Crafts Unit).
