Gozo’s Trailblazer Exhibition – 50 years of the Astra Theatre in Victoria

Gozo’s Trailblazer – is an exhibition at Il-Hagar Museum in Victoria, Gozo, to mark the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the Astra Theatre.
Visitors will have the opportunity to view a range of captioned photos which give a bird’s eye view of events held over the past fifty years, which include, operettas, stage plays, musical shows, international variety shows, operas, musicals, and band concerts.
Others photos illustrate the construction, inauguration, and revamping after the fire back in 2003.
A signed piece of one of the original decorations by artist Frank Portelli is also on display. An opera video also runs.
The exhibition is accompanied with a book in colour with expanded information and photos. Copies of – Gozo’s Trailblazer – number three in the Il-Hagar GEMS series, are available while stock lasts and the exhibition continues till the end of November.
The closing event will be a conversation with tenor Joseph Calleja, who, at the age of 19 made his professional debut opera in Macbeth with the role of Macduff at the Astra Theatre.
Il-Hagar Museum is situated in St George’s Square, Victoria. There is no entrance fee and the museum is open 9am to 5pm seven days a week.
