Challenging racing conditions in round 1 of Gozo Motocross Championship

The Yamaha Gozo Motocross Championship 2017/18 opened with the first round on Sunday, organised by the Gozo Motocross Association.
The Association said that the riders participated in some of the most challenging and toughest racing conditions ever seen at Ta’ Xhajma Track, with windy and dusty conditions.
The afternoon of racing provided an exciting and enjoyable experience both for riders and spectators alike, the GMA said, with the first round divided into four categories, and visiting Maltese riders who joined their Gozitan friends in great sportsmanship.”
The Association also welcomed three new riders – David Mercieca, Eric Cardona and Isaac Bartolo.In Class A , David Dimech came in first, followed closely by Steve Xuereb on his Honda CRF 250cc. Third place was won by Nataniel Camilleri at his first attempt in Class A.
Class B saw Glenn Vella acquire the full 60 points aboard his Honda CRF 450cc, while Robert Spiteri came in second place. Third place was won by Keith Bugeja with his Yamaha YZF 25cc.
There were 5 riders in Class C. Jorn Stellini enjoyed the ride which won him a full 60 points. He was followed by William Sant and Matthew Spiteri respectively.
David Mercieca in his debut race won Class D, followed by 15 year-old Isaac Bartolo. Eric Cardona won third place.The second round of the Yamaha Gozo Motocross Championship will take place on the 18th of November. The Association said that new riders are always welcome.
The GMA, in collaboration with the Munxar Local Council and the Ministry for Gozo, will also be organising a MotoTrial event in the square of Munxar, on Sunday, the 4th of November.
Maltese trials professionals will compete in an exciting and entertaining event for all ages to enjoy.. Junior MotoTrial shows will also be taking place. Event starts at 10am and finish at 4pm. Entrance is free.
