Scrooge! opens at the Don Bosco Oratory Theatre next week

Scrooge! one of the best-loved musicals opens next week in Gozo – meaning that Christmas is arriving early in Gozo this year.
The Don Bosco Oratory Theatre Victoria, is staging the musical in a joint production with Chorus Urbanus Productions.
This musical had an instant world-wide success when it was produced as a film in 1970. The Music and lyrics for Scrooge! are the work of Leslie Bricusse, and it is based on the well-known classic novel `A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens. .
Scrooge! is the story of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, who undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of a Christmas Eve night, after being visited by the ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.
The theatre said that thanks to the license and the relevant permits from Samuel French Limited of London, as well as with the financial support of the Voluntary Organisations Project Scheme (VOPS) managed by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector, the musical will be staged live in English on the stage of the Don Bosco Oratory Theatre in Gozo.
The opening performance will be on Saturday, the 3rd of November at 7.30pm, with a repeat performance on Sunday, the 4th, at 2.30pm. Then there will be two other performances, one on Sunday, the 11th, at 5.30pm, and a last performance on the following Saturday, the 17th of November at 7.30pm.
The theatre said that “this musical will be surely one of the best musical productions ever to be staged at the Don Bosco Oratory Theatre of Gozo.”
The 2.5 hour production comprises good music, catchy songs and witty moments. Its best loved popular songs include `December the 25th,’ `Father Christmas,’ `I Like Life’ and `Thank You Very Much.’
Special guest artist from Malta – Ludwig Galea – will be playing the role of Scrooge, said the theatre, “together with the best of Gozitan talent showcased in this musical.”
Noel Galea, Mario Portelli, Ruth Portelli, Fabian Galea, Antonella Rapa, Hilda Grima and Kristen Grima will be playing the main parts, together with a 100-strong cast, including musicians, singers and dancers.
Dr. John Galea is the production’s musical director, who is also the director of the Chorus Urbanus Choir, the back-bone of this musical production. Salvu Cremona is the artistic director of the show, with Frances Zammit in charge of choreography.
