17,000 Gozitan and Maltese children have joined over one million children around the world to pray the Rosary for unity and peace in the world. One of the schools in Gozo that participated yesterday was the St Theresa School in Kercem.
Aid to the Church in Need said that this is an unprecedented outing since the inception of this initiative in Malta, 4 years ago as against 14,000 who participated last year.
The campaign gains strength every year, it said, not just in Gozo and Malta, but all over the world.
With the collaboration of the Secretariat for Catholic Education, Fr. Reuben Gauci Coordinator, Spiritual Development in Schools, children from over 54 schools in Gozo and Malta including secondary, primary, and kindergartens, lifted up their voices and hearts to God in a united prayer for peace on Thursday. In many other places such as orphanages and pre-schools, the children weren’t the only ones who participated, but the parents, grandparents, teachers, youth leaders and catechists as well.
ACN said that many parents, grandparents and other child care workers who indicated interest in organising this event in their various locations received materials to hold the prayer at the same or a suitable time.
It explained that this very simple, but powerful initiative began at a wayside shrine of Our Lady of Schoenstatt, in Caracas, Venezuela in 2005.
Aid to the Church in Need (Malta) said that it would “like to thank God, our Lady, the children and all those who helped for the success of this campaign.”
