The Aurora Opera House has said that this Saturday’s new production of Tosca in Gozo will be performed to a full house.
It said that this year, while Colin Attard with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and the Aurora Opera Chorus remain a constant, the theatre has invested in an innovative collaboration with world renowned stage director Vivien Hewitt, Gozo-born couturier Luke Azzopardi and design architect Andrew Borg Wirth, the latter two brought on board thanks to camilleriparismode.
“The end result promises to be the ultimate timeless elegance and lush aesthetics, homely enough for the conservatives and traditionalists and exciting and bold enough for the daring at the same time,” said the Aurora.
Amarilli Nizza will play the part of Tosca with Stefano La Colla and Lucio Gallo bringing the characters of Cavaradossi and Scarpia to life. The rest of the cast includes Frano Lufi, Matteo Peirone, Roberto Jachini Virgili and Joseph Lia.
Tosca at the Aurora is being produced as part of the Gozo Cultural Support Programme by Arts Council Malta and the Ministry for Gozo. It forms part of the cultural programme of Valletta 2018 European Capital of Culture.
Stage director Vivien Hewitt will deliver a talk on Tosca tomorrow, Friday, the 12th of October at the Gozo Cittadella at 7:15pm. The talk, in English, will be followed by an exclusive Cittadella by Night guided tour delivered by John Cremona. It ends at the Gozo Cathedral and its silver vaults.
In the meantime, the Aurora Opera House has just announced that it will be presenting another Puccini masterpiece – La Boheme, on the 12th of October 2019.
